Chapter 4 — The Revelation
Leonardo Erazo
The revelation of the valley
At the end of the valley, facing the Pacific, the answer is no longer in the glass: it is beneath your feet.
In Cobquecura, Thati reaches the final stop of her search. Winemaker Leonardo Erazo leads her to the soil, the rocks and the minerals to reveal how millions of years of geology can end up turned into wine.
The land
Where the land reveals the wine
Leonardo Erazo is a winemaker and viticulturist trained at the Universidad de Chile. After working and studying in wine regions around the world, he came to know the Itata Valley in depth in 2010.
Drawn by its old vines, its soils and the influence of the Pacific, he made his first wines there. Today his project brings together around 10 hectares of vineyard, 40 hectares set aside for conservation, olive groves and a winery in Cobquecura.
His work seeks to interpret the soil and express its differences in each wine. In 2026, Tim Atkin named him Chile's Winemaker of the Year, the first from the Itata to receive that distinction.

In Cobquecura, the search ends where it all began: in the land. There, rock, wind, time and human work come together to turn a landscape into something that can be shared.
